If you are buying or selling a home, the chances are good you struggle with the meaning of descriptive real estate terms. Here are explanations and definitions for more terms. “Living Room” & “Family Room” When a home has both a living room and a family room, we know which is which. It used to be that when an ad mentioned a family room, we could assume it also had a living room. Now some builders are building houses with something akin to the first use of “Great Room” above and calling it the “Family Room” on the floor plan. Thus houses and their terminology seem to be evolving. I suppose in the new builder speak we should just think of the room as an informal family living room. “Patio” & “Terrace” Both are outdoor living areas paved with something like slate or brick. A patio is level with the ground around it. A terrace has adjoining areas of ground which are higher, or lower, or perhaps both. “Solarium,” “Sun Room,” “Florida Room” These terms are used to describe rooms with lots of windows (often on three sides). Many times these areas also have skylights. The choice of what to call them seems purely personal. They tend to be charming, bright, sunny places in which to over winter plants and sit in the garden in chilly or downright cold weather. “Jack and Jill Bath” A bathroom with two doors into it. It is frequently situated between two bedrooms with doors to each. Sometimes the doors are into a bedroom and into a hallway. “Waterfront” vs. “Water View” Waterfront property actually has a common boundary with (frontage on) the water. Sometimes the property line actually goes into the water. Water view just means water can be seen from the property. Sometimes there is a beautiful view. Sometimes it means the water can be seen from one upstairs window when the leaves are off the trees! Also, many times a new structure might block the view at some time in the future unless there is a protective covenant or something to prevent it. The Shining (HORROR - 1980 - Starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall): If you're into horror, this movie is a must. Directed by Stanley Kubrick, and adapted from the Steven King novel, The Shinning is by far one of the best horror films ever made. Unlike modern horror films, there are no predictable scares, deformed people hiding in the hills, blood thirsty zombies, or girls that decide to stay in the house while a killer is on the phone. Instead, Kubrick brilliantly combines cinematography, music, and sound to create this masterpiece of horror. Keep an eye on the boy...this film gave birth to the over-used emotionless child with ESP so common today (examples include The Sixth Sense, The Ring, The Ring Two, The Grudge, Godsend, Hide & Seek, and even the Got Milk commercial). A Clockwork Orange (SCIENCE FICTION - 1971 - Starring Malcolm McDowell): Adapted for the screen by Stanley Kubrick, A Clockwork Orange is one of the few films ever made that is able to evoke each and every emotion a human being is capable of having. The movie is a genuine masterpiece; it's so good that there is nothing anyone can really write that will do this film justice. Be warned in advance that just like any fine piece of art, this film isn't for everyone. Those who are able to appreciate the film and its underlying message will undoubtedly question every film they have ever seen. WORST FILMS TO RENT Let's face it guys, we love action and we don't need a plot. If it's fast paced, bloody, and has lots of guns we love it. Unfortunately, our dates don't always feel the same way. This actually brings me to my next point and film; if a date ever tells you that her favorite movie of all time is Bloodsport, marry her! Bloodsport (ACTION - 1988 - Starring Jean Claude Van Damme): I for one love this movie...watching JCVD (Jean Claude Van Damme) do his "deaf touch" and having Chong Li say "Brick Don't Hit Back" was awesome. But the problem is that if I watched this on a date, it would probably end before the opening credits are over. The same goes for all of our other JCVD favorites such as Kickboxer, Lionheart, and Hard Target. With this system, the OnStar operator needs to begin providing your programming with an address. So you'll need to know the street number of that Holiday Inn you're departing from. There are also occasions when the operator isn't going to find a site in the database, either because your information is incomplete or theirs is. If your plans change with the OnStar system, it will simply tell you that you've left the route until you once again contact the OnStar phone center and have them reroute your vehicle. I and my wife always travel on our vacations. We always want to do something different, but we end up in the same places. You may not even have a good idea of what kinds of careers would fit your personality and skills until you do a career search to learn more about yourself. Take time to do some of the personality and skill tests that accompany career searches and see what is right for you. If you are going to spend the majority of your life working, as most people do, than why not take your time and through a career search learn what is truly the best career for you. Could your failure to activate personal success be linked to self-sabotage? This isn’t the type of sabotage that you would normally suspect or even give time to? What I am talking about is a part of your unconscious called the adaptive unconscious. This part of your mind is trained to predict and then avoid pain, displeasure or stress. The adaptive unconscious doesn’t set out to cause you to fail. It is working along a complex blueprint that has been developing since the moment you were born and in many cases it has been proven even in the womb. This part of your mind doesn’t just look at the benefits of a current action. It takes into account how this thought or this action is going to play into your total psychology. There is something that we call ecology. In the same way in nature there are ecological consequences to building a factory; you have to make sure that you don’t damage the water table or perhaps cause air pollution. Even though the factory would create jobs and is good for the economy the factory might be bad for the ecology. In that cause the factory might not be built. Within our mind we also have ecology. Believe or not at this moment in time you are making all the best choices you can with all the information you have at hand. We are providing you with new information, new options, and alternatives using the other-than-conscious part of your mind. With in this process today I am going to ask is that you listen to your own inner-self. That part of yourself that say, “This is ecological for me, this is safe for me to do.” As you practice using your mind it is important that you get a clear sense of what you want to accomplish. But equally important you need to know when you are off course, if you are not accomplishing the goals that you have set for yourself. Then that is the time for you to take a real hard look at what are you losing, or have to give up when you accomplish this new goal. That will be the sign that you are disrupting your minds ecosystem. Be ready to let go of where you are so you can get to where you want to be. I often tell clients in order to do what you want to do, you must be willing to do what you need to do. This is where practicing at the other than-conscious level comes into play. When you are at home in a safe place practice your creative visualization, relaxation techniques. Place yourself in the future and allow your mind explore all the positive outcomes and use scenario planning to discover potential limitations in your plan. By practicing with a relaxed mind you free up both your inner creativity and your inner critic giving both equal time to explore. Once you have discovered potential pitfalls, learn to take steps to avoid or overcome them. Then focus 100% of your energy on success.

It dehydrates you, causing your body to lose water. Remember, water = good. When you are dehydrated, low on internal liquid, your metabolism slows down. This means your body gets by on fewer calories and stores the rest as fat. Think it through: You get dehydrated, you get thirsty. You just drank a cup of tea, coffee, or soda, so you can't be thirsty, can you? Since your brain can't really tell the difference between hunger and thirst signals, it tells you to eat something when all that's really going on is that you need a drink of water. SO WHAT CAN YOU DO? 1. Substitute water for most of the other stuff you're drinking. 2. "Buy" your artificially sweetened drinks. If you drink an artificially sweetened drink and/or one with caffeine, buy it back with at least an equivalent sized drink of water. Eight ounces of coffee? Follow it with eight ounces of water. 3. Is water boring for you? Then try flavoring your water with lemon or something else. Use herbal teas that have their own flavor and might not even need to be sweetened. 4. Include soups and juices in your diet. These are high liquid content. Just be aware that while nutritionally better for you than diet drinks or drinks with caffeine, they DO contain calories. 5. Can't do without sweetened drinks? Try stevia. This is a natural food additive available online and at most health food stores. While it has a sweetening effect, the FDA does not allow it to be called or marketed as a sweetener. Due to its chemical makeup, it does not seem to produce the cravings for more food as do other non-sugar sweeteners. I read that in a book, but I tried Stevia and that's how it worked for me. I was drinking four to eight cups of coffee sweetened with artificial sweeteners a day, and munching tons of snacks as I drank the coffee! I started using stevia, and the desire for constant snacking went away. I will warn you, while technically VERY sweet, it does have an acquired taste.
